Remote Learning Begins Tuesday, March 17

Dear Students,

While our school building will remain closed, our learning will continue. Your teachers will be available to support you as we continue to move forward with remote learning. Below you will find the school’s expectations for moving forward with remote learning.

Preparing for Remote Learning

It is critical that you are set up to connect with your teachers and classes remotely from home. If you have not yet enabled and set up Skype for Business on your personal devices at home, please do so as soon as possible.

If you haven’t yet installed Skype for Business on your personal computer, here are the install instructions:

  1. Go to https://portal.office.com/and login with your school email and password
  2. Click Install Office icon on top right, and click Other install options in the drop down menu
  3. Under Office apps & devices click View apps & devices
  4. Under Skype for Business click Install Skype

You are also encouraged to practice making and receiving Skype calls with friends. This video demonstrates how to find school contacts and call them using Skype. Your teachers will reach out to you via Canvas or email with instructions and expectations for class meetings. Tuesday we will begin our remote learning expectations for students.

In addition to Skype for Business, it is important that you have access to PowerSchool and Canvas. For many teachers, Canvas will be the primary way of sharing instructional materials (readings, assignments, assessments, etc.). This may differ slightly from class to class. When you have questions about where to go and what to do, email your teacher for support.

As always, please continue to check your school email daily for updates. This is not only an important practice during this period of remote learning but also for future academic and professional success.

Daily Schedule and Structure

Classes will begin remote learning on Tuesday, March 17. It will be an A day. As Mr. Frank shared with you previously, we will continue to follow the school’s A-B-C day calendar, and the daily schedule, especially for any class session that is taking place on Skype. It is important to note, however, that the extent to which Skype is used will vary from class to class. Every class will also continue to utilize Canvas and email. It is therefore very important for all students to monitor both Canvas and their email frequently for instructions from their teachers.

Ongoing Support

As we navigate our remote learning over the next few weeks, please note that various support staff will be available to help you. Mrs. Steinberg and Mrs. Dauber will be available to conference with students through Skype for Business or email. Additionally, students can reach out to our learning specialists, Mrs. Gladstein and Mrs. Reese, for academic support. Finally, please know that I am available through Skype for Business or email should you need any type of support.

While I know that the past few days have been unsettling, I am confident that we will navigate this period of remote learning well. Please know that I am here to support you in whatever way I can. Please contact me through email or Skype for Business, and I will be sure to get back to you, as soon as possible. I wish you and your family well. Stay healthy!

Mr. Loeb
