Memorial Scroll
"Each Memorial Scroll is a memory of the past and a messenger for the future."
During the Holocaust and the Nazi occupation of Czechoslovakia, approximately 1,800 Torah scrolls and other sacred Jewish artifacts were gathered and sent to the Jewish Museum in Prague. Following World War II, under Communist rule, the scrolls were stored in the former Michle Synagogue on the outskirts of Prague.
In 1964, 1,564 of these Torah scrolls were brought to London. The Memorial Scrolls Trust was established to preserve, restore when possible, and place the scrolls on permanent loan with Jewish communities and educational institutions around the world.
Rochelle Zell Jewish High School is honored to care for Memorial Scrolls Trust Torah #1111. It is one of 246 scrolls whose original community is unknown. These scrolls are known as "Orphan Scrolls," silent witnesses to once vibrant Jewish communities in Bohemia and Moravia whose identities were lost during the Holocaust.
More information about Memorial Scrolls Trust Torah #1111 is forthcoming.
