" Clearly, there are the lessons that are in our textbooks, like algebra, chemistry and Spanish. But at RZJHS, we also learned essential midot, or values, such as diligence and morality, that you can’t find in a textbook."
Over 80 participants joined us this week as the preeminent scholars of the Jewish Theological Seminary descended upon CJHS for two days of study with our community during the Isidor and Rose Wagner Institute.
The theme of the Institute was The Land of Israel: Land of Longing, Land of Promise. Attendees were treated to a variety of learning sessions on topics such as American Jewish responses to the founding of the State of Israel and the poetry of Yehuda Amichai. The CJHS junior and senior classes also had the opportunity to learn with JTS Chancellor Arnold Eisen.
One of the highlights of the Institute was the presentation of the Wagner Institute Essay Contest winners. Seniors Jonah Glick-Unterman and Isaac Johnston were each awarded a $5,000 college scholarship for their winning essays. Mazal Tov!
